Class 10 Science Deleted Syllabus 2026-27: What Is Not in Boards
Which Science topics are back in the syllabus but assessed only in school, what stays in the Board exam, and the Social Science scope.
Many Class 10 students search for the Science deleted syllabus for 2026-27 so they know what to leave out. The real picture is a little different: some topics are in your syllabus but are not tested in the Board exam. This post explains exactly which topics those are, what stays in the Board exam, the unit-wise marks, and the matching rules for Social Science, all as CBSE has stated them.
Not deleted, but not in the Board exam
In the 2026-27 Class 10 Science syllabus, these topics are back in the syllabus but are assessed only formatively (through school activities and portfolio), not in the Board exam:
- Periodic Classification of Elements
- Evolution
- Electric Motor, Electromagnetic Induction and Generator
Also, information given in NCERT boxes is not assessed in the Board exam.
Heredity stays in the Board exam. Do not confuse it with Evolution. Evolution is assessed only in school; Heredity can come in your Board paper.
Why "deleted" is the wrong word
A deleted topic is one you never study. These three topics are not like that. They are part of your syllabus, and your school will assess them through activities and your portfolio.
So the honest advice is:
- Do study them, because your school assessment includes them.
- Do not spend Board-exam revision time practising Board-style questions on them.
- Keep your Board revision focused on the topics that are assessed in the Board exam, including Heredity.
If you see a deleted-topics list from an earlier year, check it against the points above before trusting it.
Science units and marks for the Board exam
The Class 10 Board syllabus for 2026-27 has the same units and marks as 2025-26:
| Unit | Marks |
|---|---|
| Chemical Substances | 25 |
| World of Living | 25 |
| Natural Phenomena | 12 |
| Effects of Current | 13 |
| Natural Resources | 5 |
And for Mathematics, also unchanged: Number Systems 6, Algebra 20, Coordinate Geometry 6, Geometry 15, Trigonometry 12, Mensuration 10, Statistics and Probability 11.
Has the paper pattern changed?
No. CBSE notified that there is no change in the question paper design and assessment pattern for the academic session 2026-27, and the passing criteria remain the same as in 2025-26.
The Sample Question Papers and Marking Schemes for Classes 10 and 12 for 2026-27 were released on 21 September 2026. They show how questions on the Board-assessed topics are set.
The same idea in Social Science
Social Science has similar rules. The Class 10 Social Science Board scope for 2026-27 is the same as 2025-26:
| Chapter | How it is assessed |
|---|---|
| The Making of a Global World | Only subtopics 1 to 1.3 are in the Board exam; the rest is a 5-mark internal project |
| The Age of Industrialisation | Periodic assessment only |
| Lifelines of National Economy | Map pointing only |
So, as in Science, some parts are studied and assessed in school rather than in the Board paper.
Who this affects
- Students in Class 10 in 2026-27, taking the Board exam in 2027.
- Parents and tutors planning revision with them.
What to do this week
- Mark the three Science topics and the NCERT boxes in your book as "school assessment only".
- Ask your Science teacher how the school will assess these topics through activities and the portfolio.
- Put Heredity firmly in your Board revision list.
- In Social Science, mark which part of The Making of a Global World is Board-assessed (subtopics 1 to 1.3).
- Make your revision timetable using the unit-wise marks above.
