OpenAI Unveils GPT-5.6 Models, ChatGPT Work, and Hosted Sites

OpenAI has announced a suite of significant updates, including three new GPT-5.6 models: Sol, Terra, and Luna. The Sol model, while slightly below Fable on the Artificial Intelligence Index, excels in several agentic coding benchmarks. Notably, the pricing for these new models remains consistent with GPT 5.5, positioning them as significantly more cost-effective than Fable. These models also bring substantial enhancements to front-end design, computer interaction, cybersecurity, and general knowledge work. A particularly intriguing detail is that 5.6 Sol reportedly "autonomously post-trained Luna." In addition to the core models, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Work, a new agent powered by GPT-5.6, designed to operate across various applications and files, potentially serving as a direct competitor to Anthropic's Cowork. This agent, which includes built-in Codex capabilities, can handle diverse tasks beyond just coding and maintain ongoing work across web, mobile, and desktop platforms. The company also launched a new ChatGPT Desktop App, merging Codex and ChatGPT functionalities with an integrated browser and robust computer interaction features. Finally, a public beta for Hosted Sites allows users to effortlessly convert their work into shareable web applications or sites via a simple URL.
